First team goaltender 1960 - 1962 All-Stars
Johnny Bower joined the Maple Leafs at the age of 34. He played on
four Stanley Cup teams and won the Vezina trophy twice.
Bower
played 552 games compiling 32,016 minutes, winning 251 games,
losing 196 and tying 90. His goals against average was 2.52 during
the regular season, which included 37 shutouts.
His play-off record
was 74 games (4,350 minutes), winning 35 games, losing 34 and tying
none, for a goals against average of 2.54 which included 5 shutouts.
Along with his induction to the Hockey Hall of Fame, he is also a member
of both the Providence and Cleveland Hockey Halls of Fame.
Johnny Bower started wearing a face protector in the 1969 - 1970 season
after playing seventeen seasons in the National Hockey League.
Johnny Bower retired as an player in 1970 and became a scout for the Maple
Leafs.
A goal that Bower had, but one he was never able to accomplish, was that of
being able to score a goal in the N.H.L.
As of May 02, 1997 as noted in the Toronto Star "Where are they now ... the 1966-67 Maple Leafs", Johnny Bower had retired in Toronto and does charity work and has a goalie school.
