Ron Ellis was the lone rookie in 1963 to earn a position with the Leafs, and
was assigned sweater #11, because it was Punch Imlach's favourite number. He lost
that number to Bret Selby the following year.
In the 1964-65 season Ron Ellis tied Frank Mahovlich with twenty-three goals
a piece.
Ellis was another quiet individual and probably was one of the least noticed
and most under rated player during his career. He played on one Stanley Cup
team and retired during the 1975 Leaf training camp. He returned to the Leafs
for the 1977-78 season and played until the end of the 1980-81 season.
During his career he played a total of 1034 games in which he scored 332 goals
and had 308 assists for 640 points. He also played in 70 play off games in
which he scored 18 goals and had 8 assists for 26 points.
As of May 02, 1997 as noted in the Toronto Star "Where are they now ... the 1966-67 Maple Leafs", Ron Ellis is in public relations for the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
