    Captain of the Leafs for 12 years

    During his hockey career he has played on several championship teams which includes the Memorial Cup, the Allan Cup, the American Hockey League Champions while with Pittsburgh and the four Stanley Cup wins. He played 1,187 games with the Leafs during which he scored 296 goals and had 417 assists during the regular season for a total of 713 points. He also played 110 play-off games, scoring 26 goals and having 34 assists for a total of 60 points.
    Armstrong was the captain of the Leafs for twelve of his twenty-one seasons. He retired after the 1967 -68 season, only to return to the Leafs to help them get into the play-offs one more time.
    His best season for scoring was the 1961-62 when he had 53 points.

    Not only was George Armstrong a great hockey player, he also gave of himself in the community helping out with many charities. His work in the community won him the Charles Conacher Humanitarian Award.


    As of May 02, 1997 as noted in the Toronto Star "Where are they now ... the 1966-67 Maple Leafs", George Armstrong is a part-time scout with the Leafs.
