    The Big "M"

Frank Mahovlich came from St Michael's College to the Leafs in 1956 and had a three game trial at the end of the 1956 -57 season. In his first full year he narrowly beat out Bobby Hull for the Calder Cup even though the Leafs ended up in last place.
During the 1960 -61 season Mahovlich flirted with Richard's 50 goals in one season, but just came up short, scoring 48 goals.
Mahovlich, who was a quiet individual, had a rough relationship with the Leaf Coach, Punch Imlach. When a rumored deal with Chicago for one million dollars fell though in 1962, he was traded to Detroit in March 1968 in a multi-player which brought Normam Ullman to Toronto.
He ended his N.H.L. career with Montreal, where he finally received the recognition he deserved before going to the newly formed World Hockey Association.
His career in the N.H.L. covered 1,181 games in which he scored 533 goals and had 570 assists for a total of 1,103 points. He also played in 137 playoff games scoring 51 goals and 67 assists for point total of 118.

As of May 02, 1997 as noted in the Toronto Star "Where are they now ... the 1966-67 Maple Leafs", Frank Mahovlich is busy in retirement after owning a travel agency.
